The Bellingen Youth Orchestra String School is a training ensemble designed to provide younger string players with the opportunity to develop their musical abilities in a fun and motivating environment. Players are invited to join the BYOSS when they are ready for the challenges of working within a larger ensemble. Players are directed by qualified Suzuki teachers Jacquie Gill and Elizabeth Scott and additional specialist string tutors each week to enable intensive and motivational work on technique, ensemble, sight reading and musicianship skills through challenging intermediate repertoire. The String School perform at BYO concerts as well as regularly working and performing with the BYO and Sinfonia. Players are encouraged to contribute musical ideas and in 2020 they performed an original composition from one of their own players. Students graduate through the String School to become members of the Bellingen Youth Orchestra.
