What is your role in the Bellingen Youth Orchestra Ensembles?
I am the Artistic Director of Sinfonia and teacher of the advanced level violin and viola students and take the first violin tutor role in the Bellingen Youth Symphony orchestra
What are some of your musical achievements?
I’ve had the benefit of learning from Alice Waten, a leading pedagogue of violin teaching in this country. She has passed on her knowledge and wisdom that I now have the pleasure of passing on to the players in the Bellingen Youth Orchestra. I have been privileged to have experienced many extraordinary performance opportunities, following my 24-year career with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. I have also played with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and am excited to be able to continue my relationship with them when they attend Bellingen to support the BYO.
What do you love about playing music?
I love telling stories to people through music and passing all the skills of performing that I have learnt to my students.
What inspired you to teach music in Bellingen?
Annie Phelan’s music programme was of such high calibre that I was compelled to be a part of the contribution and development at the upper levels where I was most relevant.
