The 2025 Junior Scholarship round was an incredible showcase of dedication, talent, and musical passion! A huge congratulations to all the outstanding players who participated this year. The high standard of applications and performances made for an incredibly tough decision for our adjudicators.

The Scholarship Application Process

Our scholarship program is designed to recognise and support young musicians on their journey to improved musical proficiency and excellence. The first stage of the application required each participant to submit a written application, outlining:

  • Their passion for music
  • How they plan to use the scholarship money to build their musical skills
  • Their participation in ensembles
  • Their commitment to music practice
  • Their involvement in AMEB exams, Suzuki Graduations, performances, Eisteddfods, and musical workshops
  • Their participation in any other musical activities

This stage allowed our adjudicators to gain insight into each musician’s dedication, aspirations, and contributions to the musical community.

The Performance Round

Following the written application, players showcased their musicianship in a live performance. Each participant was required to present either:

  • Two contrasting pieces, or
  • One piece with contrasting sections (total performance time: max 7 minutes)

Performances were evaluated based on polish, technical proficiency, tone, and musicality. For those proficient in more than one instrument, the opportunity was given to perform on multiple instruments, further demonstrating their versatility and skill.

Adjudication and Scholarship Awards

Scholarships are awarded by a panel of at least two adjudicators, carefully selected by the BYO Committee. Adjudicators are chosen for their expertise in musical performance and education, ensuring that the evaluation process is both fair and informed. Every effort is made to avoid conflicts of interest in the selection process, maintaining the integrity of our scholarship program.

Once all applications and performances have been considered, scholarships are announced as soon as practicable, recognising and rewarding the hard work and dedication of our young musicians.
