The Bellingen Youth Orchestra, our flagship ensemble, represents a full symphonic experience. The orchestra performs music of an intermediate to advanced level, including a diverse range of classical and exciting modern contemporary repertoire. Conducted by renowned Artistic Director, Annie Phelan, the orchestra continues to shine as one of the best youth orchestras found on Australia’s East Coast. They regularly combine with visiting artists to create dynamic concerts which seek to challenge and extend its players. Now numbering over 80 regular players the orchestra is also a place of learning and inspiration with older students taking on mentoring roles to ensure everybody’s contribution is recognised. Each year the BYO plays alongside their patron David Helfgott. They have also played specially commissioned works by renowned composer Paul Jarman and regularly invite internationally recognised soloists to join them in concert.
