SUMMARY:Bellingen Youth Orchestra Presents '2025 Proms Concert'
DESCRIPTION:The Bellingen Youth Orchestra (BYO) will close its 2025 playing year with one of its most joy-filled concerts yet — a celebration of music\, community\, and the 50th anniversary of Queen’s legendary Bohemian Rhapsody. In true Bellingen style\, the final concert brings together young musicians\, seasoned performers\, beloved alumni\, and guest artists for a program that promises colour\, artistry\, and a few goosebumps along the way. \nThis year’s finale\, on December 14th at the Stockton Hall\, Bellingen Highschool\, features an unforgettable orchestral arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody\, complete with a viola solo performed by Xanthe Bartholomaeus — a rare and exciting twist on one of the world’s most iconic works. Adding to the celebration is a lineup of exceptional guest artists. Local vocal favourite Teale Kelly-Wright returns to perform with the orchestra\, bringing his trademark depth and sensitivity. Classical guitarist Karin Braidwood will join the stage alongside her talented student Gypsy\, offering a touching intergenerational performance. Rising young pianist Joe Barker — a name capturing attention across the region — also appears as a featured soloist and is certainly one to keep on your radar. \nThe concert showcases the breadth of the BYO program\, opening with a combined performance from the Cygnet Orchestra\, featuring our Wind and String Schools\, who will perform Swan Lake. The first half also includes music from Forrest Gump and also features our senior string ensemble\, Sinfonia playing Vivaldi’s\, Winter from The Four Seasons\, a violin concerto\, featuring player Heather Webb on violin. After interval\, audiences can look forward to the sparkle and power of Holst’s Jupiter\, a high-energy performance of Classical Gas\, a heart-warming appearance from our alumni\, and of course the grand finale: Bohemian Rhapsody. \nMore than just a concert\, the event is a tribute to the creativity\, resilience\, and passion of the young musicians who make up the BYO community — and to the teachers\, families\, and guest artists who support them. DESCRIPTION:The Bellingen Youth Orchestra returns with a vibrant program that celebrates the power and joy of music across styles and generations. Audiences will be treated to a dazzling performance of a 2025 Eurovision favourite by  Teale Kelly Wright. Teale has joined the BYO in the past and already has a series of accolades to his name.  Just recently he performed at the Sydney Opera House as part of the NSW Schools Choral Festival.  He was one of four soloists chosen from NSW. Audiences will also be able to see outstanding soloist Holly McGuiggan play Strauss’s Horn Concerto. The orchestra will also bring to life the timeless beauty of Schunert’s Unfinished Symphony\, before finishing of a high with the unforgettable swing and spirit of jazz legend Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong. From classic masterpieces to contemporary showstoppers\, this is a concert full of colour\, energy and inspiration-perfect for music lovers of all ages. SUMMARY:Junior Scholarship Performance Evening
DESCRIPTION:The second stage of our Junior Scholarship. \nWHO WILL PLAY:  All players who successfully complete Stage 1 will be contacted and invited to perform at a Scholarship Evening. As part of the scholarship round all performers will be awarded a free rehearsal & performance with an accompanist which is a fantastic opportunity to build new musical skills. \nCRITERIA: Finalists are to present 2 contrasting pieces or 1 piece with contrasting sections (max 7 minutes total performance time). Performances will be judged on polish\, technical proficiency in the pieces\, tone & musicality. If finalists are proficient in more than one instrument\, they are free to perform on more than one.   \nScholarships are decided by at least two adjudicators nominated by the BYO Committee. The adjudicators will be chosen based on their specific area of expertise in musical performance or education in relation to specific scholarship rounds. Every care is taken to ensure that adjudicators do not have a conflict of interest in awarding scholarships. Scholarships are announced as soon as is practicable after all applications have been considered. \nApplicants are encouraged to discuss their applications with their teachers or ensemble leaders if they have any questions about the scholarship process. \n

DESCRIPTION:Our BYO Senior Scholarships provide students with an opportunity to showcase their own individual unique skill set and playing styles. This event is by donation and is open to the public. All donations received will go towards the scholarship winners. Should you like to contribute to this initiative\, please email admin@bellingenyouthorchestra.com.au or make a donation via our website.  \nFinalists are to present 2 contrasting pieces or 1 piece with contrasting sections (max 7 minutes total performance time). Performances will be judged on polish\, technical proficiency in the pieces\, tone & musicality. If finalists are proficient in more than one instrument\, they are free to perform on more than one.  Scholarships are decided by at least two adjudicators nominated by the BYO Committee. The adjudicators will be chosen based on their specific area of expertise in musical performance or education in relation to specific scholarship rounds. Every care is taken to ensure that adjudicators do not have a conflict of interest in awarding scholarships. Scholarships are announced as soon as is practicable after all applications have been considered. \nBELLINGEN HIGH SCHOOL MUSIC ROOMS. EVENT CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC DUE TO SPACE. BYO FAMILIES ONLY.

DESCRIPTION:NOT OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. INVITED SCHOOLS ONLY. \nThe Bellingen Youth Orchestra are pleased to present our BYO annual schools concert. \nBased on the success of the 2022 Schools Concert\, our proposed 2023 ‘Magic of Music’ event will provide students from our catchment area with the prospect to further familiarise themselves with an orchestral experience and the myriad of positive rewards it provides. We will bring up to 700 (based on last year’s success) identified young people from 15 regional schools – extending to Dorrigo\, Bonville\, Bowraville and Eungai\, to engage with the youth orchestra for two days (4 sessions) of interactive\, fun and engaging music. Students will experience an instrument walk through\, dance and meet the young musicians and tutors\, some of whom are world-class performers. The experience aims to continue to build an interest in and love of music\, encourage playing a musical instrument\, inspire music in schools\, build connections resulting in positive social and emotional experiences\, and promote a culture of successful youth and community development in the Bellingen Shire.

DESCRIPTION: ‘BYO and Valla Voices Unite’ will be a free musical performance event at the Bellingen Memorial Hall showcasing a selection of modern and contemporary classics\, with movie theme tracks ensuring engagement of all ages from our community. We are also excited to be collaborating with the very talented Valla Voices\, with the BYO performing some compositions from one of Australia’s favourite choral composers and conductors ‘Paul Jarman.’ This will be Valla Voices LAST event. Valla Voices have long entertained our local community and beyond with their lustrous singing. Highlights for this talented local choir include performing at the ‘Australian National Choral Festival’ in Brisbane\, the only regional choir invited to perform at the ‘Gondwana World Choir Festival’ and singing in the collective choir at the ‘Sounds of Australia Concert’ at the Sydney Opera House. \nThe Bellingen Youth Orchestra brings that ‘something special’ to the community\, embracing our older audience but also understanding that for classical music to thrive it must do so in an eclectic culture\, embracing the imagination and passion of the young. That is\, after all\, what the BYO are founded on.  The listening experience we provide boosts community pride and connects us all. \nThe Bellingen Youth Orchestra would like to thank the Bellingen Shire Council and the NSW State Government for supporting this event and bringing it to life for our community. Without their support\, this event would not have been able to go ahead and our local community would not be provided with the opportunity to access quality musical performances for free! \nAs part of our ongoing fundraising initiatives there will be a raffle\, supported by our local Bellingen businesses and a canteen at interval. \n\nTICKETS AVAILABLE HERE \n\n
